Paul is a Massachusetts native and earned engineering degrees from M.I.T. and Johns Hopkins before joining the faculty at University of Iowa in 1974. From there, he embarked on a 40+ year career investigating auditory nerve physiology and cochlear implant technology. He held joint appointments in Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as Otolaryngology before retiring in 2015. He now spends his free time visiting his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, and baking in his wood-fired brick oven he built in his backyard. Despite his retirement, he still attends weekly lab meetings, advises students on dissertation committees, and serves as a PI on our Cochlear Implant grant.
